Downloadable PC Games
Anyone who plays games on their computer eventually discovers the joy of downloadable PC games. While downloaded games have many similarities to games purchased on installation media, as well as to games that are played online, they also have their own distinct set of advantages and disadvantages.
The one real disadvantage to downloadable PC games is the lack of installation media. While most downloadable games have an installation CD, obtaining one requires a fee for the disc, shipping and handling charges, and the wait for the disc to arrive in the mail. Granted, the disc is not required for installing the game, so you don’t have to wait for the disc in order to play, but the extra expense often serves to turn people off from having one. Unfortunately, in the event of a hard drive crash, reformat, or simple change of computers, reinstalling the game is much harder without the installation disc.
Of course, one of the main advantages to downloadable PC games is immediate gratification. You don’t have to stand in line at the store and then make the drive home before installing and playing the game. You simply download the game, install it and play. With a high-speed internet connection, your wait time could be mere seconds. In addition, you are able to play the latest games on the market as soon as they become available, without the hassle of waiting for it to become available at your local retailer.
For some people, downloading PC games is a great option for games that are hard to find or not available locally. For others, downloadable PC games are the only type to be found on their computers. In either case, downloading games is an excellent way to gain access to all of the games you love to play.
